Here is a little more information for you about your upcoming trip to Guatemala. Please note that this information is tentative and subject to change.

You guys will be spending the majority of your time in San Pedro, Guatemala. You will be doing a variety of relational ministry including, but not limited to, open air events, visiting local schools, prayer walks and some evangelism.

You will need to bring the following things with you…

athletic shoes, light rain gear (it will be rainy season in Guatemala), swimsuit, pillow, hygiene items, light jacket, socks and undergarments, work or hiking boots, summer clothes, hat or cap, nice casual clothes, towel and washcloth, insect repellent, Bible, notebook, and spending money.

GENERAL PAKING LIST FOR AMBASSADORS

When deciding what to pack modesty is key. Here are a few guidelines for clothing choices:

1. Bring something modest to sleep in.
2. No short, tight, or clingy clothing is permitted. Wear one size larger in tops to ensure your shirt is not too tight.
3. No sleeveless shirts or tank tops are permitted for girls or guys.
4. If you cannot raise your arms above your head or touch your toes without showing your stomach or lower back, leave it at home.
5. Shorts must come to the top of the knee. Capris and goucho pants are great options!
6. Skirts and dresses should be below or to the knee. Depending on location, skirts should be to the ankle.
7. Bring a modest one-piece swim suit. Guys, normal swim trunks should be fine. Girls, be prepared to wear shorts and a shirt over your swimsuit.
8. Men need long pants in most cultural situations.
9. Make sure clothes are not stained and/or torn. You do not have to wear your best clothing but make yourself presentable. It may be offensive to the locals if you look sloppy.
10. Bring clothes for church services. Boys should bring khakis pants and a collared shirt. Girls should bring skirts below the knee and loose blouses—nothing low cut.
11. Bring closed toes shoes for ministry. You may bring flip-flops, Chacos or other shoes for recreation time.

Clothing & Basic needs:

1. 1 lightweight rain jacket
2. 1 hat or head covering for sun or bad weather
3. 1 pair of sturdy walking shoes and 1 pair of flip-flops, Chacos or other shoes for recreation and showering
4. Enough clean underwear and socks
5. Toiletries: deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, soap, shampoo/conditioner, shave gel and razor if applicable. If you have contacts, bring contact solution and your glasses (don’t rely solely on contacts)
6. Personal Items: water bottle, watch, headlamp/flashlight, insect repellent, sunglasses, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, a small pack towel or sarong.
7. Small first aid kit (Neosporin, After Bite, Insect repellent, Band Aids, Imodium AD, pain killer-Advil/Tylenol, Pepto-Bismol, antiseptic wipes, Dramamine. Benadryl)
8. Bible, journal, pens/pencils

For Men: 1 nice outfit (nice pants and collared shirt), 2-3 pairs of pants to wear daily (consider the zip-off travel pants that transform into capris, not shorts, they are too short), 2-3 pairs of long shorts, about 7 shirts (cotton or the breathable and quick-drying kind are great), 1 modest bathing trunks- no speedos.

For Women: 2-4 skirts or dresses (covering your knees), about 7 tops (cotton or the breathable and quick-drying kind are great), 2-3 casual pairs pants (consider the zip-off travel pants that transform into capris, not shorts, they are too short), 3 pairs of shorts that come to the top of your knees or longer (Running shorts are not appropriate), 1 modest one piece bathing suit or modest tankini that covers your stomach (some places may require shorts as well), enough sanitary products for the trip.

Optional items that you might want to bring:

1. Alarm clock
2. Camera
3. Outlet converter/ voltage converter (if you even have electricity)
4. Baby wipes/ face wipes (great for cleaning between showers)
5. Ear plugs
6. A picture of your family to share with friends
